Why does my dark brown haircolor fade so quickly?

My natural color is light brown. I color it black-brown every six weeks. Minimal heat styling (ALWAYS with protective spray), I wear a hat outside, shampoo only every other day in warm water with a shampoo and conditioner for color-treated hair, which has sunscreen, and my hair is very healthy. The color takes well at first, but after about 2 or 3 weeks, I'm left with a medium golden brown. Is my hair so healthy that I need to use a higher volume peroxide to blast the cuticle open more during processing? I have two little kids, so I don't really have time to apply a semi-permanent between permanent color applications.

When I had the time to visit a stylist, she would mix up a batch of "color refresher" for me to use in the shower every 2 weeks or so (I think it was some color mixed with conditioner). Could I conjure that up on my own?

how long do you wait to wash it after you first have it colored?

I wait about 48 hours after coloring before shampooing. I'd wait longer, but my scalp is VERY oily. Shampooing only every other day means that on day 2, a ponytail is a must. Report It

do you pull the color through to your ends every time? if so you are making your hair more and more porous every time you do it. technically you should put permanent color on your roots and semi on your previously colored ends. but if you are going darker- why not use semi permanent and don't bother with peroxide at all??? Artec, Paul Mitchell and Goldwell all make color enhancing shampoos/conditioners which are probably available at your beauty supply or close salon. I recommend using regular shampoo and color enhancing conditioner. The shampoos are known for not cleansing so well :)

Sometimes you can find color refresher at the store, but DO NOT try to mix it on your own unless you are a pro (your hair could fall out or turn green)

Try getting a little dark color or have your stylist use a higher peroxide volume. If you get it darker it's likely it'll fade into the color you want. Don't forget to get a protein treatment once in awhile or buy a protein treatment shampoo %26amp; conditioner or spray. Coloring your hair will damage it.

you should use a shampoo that has color in it i beleive jhon frieda has a line of color shampoo and cond. use it once a week to deposite color but i dont recommend using it more than once a week BC it wil make your hair stiff and unmanagable. and use a better quality shamp. and cond.
